Cades Cove Loop Road Drive
Cades Cove is the most visited part of the Park--and for good reason. A favorite in the Fall and most any weekend throughout the year, this 11-mile loop road is set in an idyllic location within the GSMNP and offers a self-guided tour over the 11-mile route of historic homesteads, preserved structures, and two churches. Mountain vistas, abundant wildlife, beautiful meadows, and a very helpful visitor's center provide the traveler a real feel for what it was like for the pioneer settlers to the area.
The loop road also provides access to Parson Branch and Rich Mountain roads which exit on the NC and TN sides of the Park, respectively. Another popular feature of Cades Cove is access to the trailhead to Abrams Falls, a modestly challenging 5-mile roundtrip hike. From this hiking trail, Abrams Creek bends away from the trail in a horseshoe shape to a secluded area favored by some anglers seeking the elusive and tasty trout. Plan on spending the entire day in Cades Cove if you do anything beyond simply driving the 11 miles--especially on weekends and the Fall color season
